Pie sore! Why NYC pizzeria workers are sporting T-shirts with alleged Gilgo Beach serial killer’s face

It’s enough to kill your appetite.

A Queens pizzeria is raising eyebrows with “tasteless” T-shirts of accused Gilgo Beach serial killer Rex Heuermann — harping on the fact that he was famously nabbed through DNA on pizza crust.

“The Pizza is Amazing,” the shirts printed by Pizza on the Point in Breezy Point read. “But make sure you finish the crust — Rex Heuermann, Gilgo Pizza Connoisseur.”

The pizza joint’s owners say it’s just a slice of Big Apple humor — but it’s a bit too saucy for some.

“That’s dark!” Breezy Point retiree Paul Fallon told The Post on Tuesday. “That’s beyond dark. That’s tasteless, and tasteless is not a good thing for a pizza parlor.”

Pizza on the Point chef Stefano Ballato said the new Gilgo Beach T-shirts are a humorous hit with the regulars. Stephen Yang

Customer Samantha K said the stunt left a bad taste in her mouth.

“Oh my God, take the picture off,” she said. “It might be funny for some people but it’s really inappropriate. They should definitely take his picture off! That is some dark, dark humor.”

The shirts were the idea of the pizza shop’s owner, chef Stefano Ballato said.

“He has a very good sense of humor,” Ballato said of the shop’s owner. “He had them printed by his friends. He was born and raised here in Breezy Point.

“Most of the people here are relaxed,” the chef said. “If you go to Manhattan, you can’t make nobody happy. Always someone finds a problem, a way not to be happy. They don’t appreciate nothing funny.

“Not here, no worry in the world. They’re all good here.”

Ballato said the pizzeria has been giving the shirts away to regular customers, but may start selling them as they get more popular — and in demand.

New York Post’s July 15, 2023 cover depicting the arrest of Rex Heuermann.

“This is America,” he said. “The tragedy becomes comedy after time, like Saturday Night Live.”

Many customers interviewed by The Post said they get the dark humor of it all.

“I think it’s hilarious,” said customer Alyssa Kotzman. “I really like the way the shrit was laid out. Now that I know I’m definitely going to eat the crust!”

Another local, a municipal worker who only identified himself as Brian, was also all in.

“It’s funny,” he said. “It’s a little dark. Dark humor, but definitely New York humor.”

Breezy Point local Chris Reed agreed.

“It doesn’t bother me,” Reed said. ” You gotta make fun of things. You can’t always be a tight ass.”

Heuermann, a married Massapequa Park architect, is charged with killing six sex workers who went missing as early as 2000 and were dumped along a desolate stretch of waterfront along Ocean Parkway.

The cases went unsolved for more than a decade after cops began finding their bodies in 2010 — until Heuermann was arrested last year, in part through DNA from hair found on a pizza crust.
