If there was a way to know what your menopause experience would be like years before it happened, would you want to know?
There is, according to Dr. Kevin Harrington, leading Harley Street Gynaecologist. He teamed up with LYMA, the wellness company behind the LYMA Laser, which I reviewed earlier in 2024. Together they’ve created a free quiz to forecast how menopause might present, decades before it occurs.
Menopause is a stage of life that most women experience in their 50s, characterized by the absence of their period for a full year. However, according to the Office of Women’s Health, some women can start experiencing symptoms in their mid-30s. Also known as perimenopause, these symptoms can include:
- Mood swings
- Increased risk of depression
- Hot flashes
- Sleep problems
According to Clinical and Experimental Dermatology, menopause can also negatively impact your skin and hair.
Understandably, I’d like to minimize (or avoid, if I’m being honest) all of the above — hence, why I took the quiz to learn some proactive steps. It recommended, amongst other things, that I look into the LYMA supplement.
What is the Lyma supplement?
Now, I know what you’re thinking: a quiz from a company that is suggesting a supplement that they produce doesn’t exactly scream unbiased opinion.
Totally get it.
However, as I’ve said, I’ve reviewed the LYMA skincare brand (for months, in fact), and once held a certification in nutrition and wellness coach from American Fitness Professionals Associations, so I actually know what to look for when reviewing these types of things.
The LYMA Supplement is a high-grade nutraceutical, engineered to target anxiety, immunity, focus, and beauty concerns.
If you’re unfamiliar, a nutraceutical is a food or compound that has health benefits other than nutritional. Some are adaptogens, like the ones found in its supplement, which help the body naturally adjust to stress.
Nutraceuticals are not designed to substitute pharmaceuticals. However, they can support one’s health, especially if they’re formulated with clinically studied bioactive ingredients.
What ingredients are in the LYMA Supplement?
Branded as the “more powerful than organic supplement,” LYMA’s formula consists of “10 proven, patented, peer-reviewed ingredients proven to work in clinical trials,” according to the company’s site. They include:
- Turmeric extract
- Prebiotic beta glucans
- Ashwagandha extract
- Palmitoylethanolamide (PEA)
- Vitamin K
- Vitamin D
- Smart nootropic
- Saffron extract
- Lycopene
- Keratin
While I’m not familiar with them all, I know that turmeric has been evaluated numerous times, and is known for its anti-inflammatory properties. Similarly, the adaptogen ashwagandha has also been shown to decrease stress hormones, like the ones that increase during perimenopause.
Because the ingredients in the LYMA Supplement are patented not organic.
While this may sound like a bad thing, organic simply means something has been grown or produced without chemicals. In contrast, patented nutraceuticals are typically clinically tested for stability and bioavailability, and have a standardized formula. These trials validate their efficiency and make their effects more predictable.
What are the benefits?
Hormonal changes are largely responsible for the night sweats, mood swings and sleepiness nights that menopause and perimenopause are known for. The benefit of the LYMA Supplement is that its ingredients work together to reduce these symptoms.
Ashwagandha, for example, may reduce the anxiety many experience, while PEA has been shown to improve cognitive function and mood.
Along with better sleep and energy levels, LYMA supplement reviewers praise the formula for improving their skin and nail strength. Promising, right?
How often do you take the supplement?
Similar to a multivitamin, probiotic or prenatal vitamin, the LYMA supplement needs to be taken daily. Four capsules make up a serving. A 30-day supply comes in a pack.
When to expect results?
According to LYMA’s site, users may start seeing changes as early as 2 weeks, with skin and nail quality improving. In week three, cognitive functioning should be better, as well as mood. By week four, energy levels and sleep can be noticed.
Will I be trying it?
Honestly, I don’t know. Although I love my LYMA Laser, the starting price for a 30-day supply is high.
The quiz (which I took several times, btw) never told me the age I could expect menopause to come knocking at my door. Frankly, I didn’t appreciate the bait and switch.
While I like many of the ingredients in the supplement’s formula, I didn’t see any mention of third-party testing, which would make me feel better. Although a variety of studies are cited, it’s not exactly the same.
However, most customers who’ve left a review love it, and I always consider that when deciding if something is worth it or not. The results also occur fast enough that if nothing substantial happens after the first pack is complete, it’s not a significant loss of time or money.
I’m not perimenopausal and therefore not sure what results I’d see, but for those with the cash and feeling “flashy,” get your LYMA life on — no judgments from me. Of course, only if your general practitioner approves.
