My Morning Jacket is about to make a racket.
Starting April 1, Jim James’ artsy jam band kick off an 18-show run —?that they’ve dubbed the ‘My Morning Jacket is On Tour’ tour — in support of their forthcoming tenth studio album “Is.”
They’ll be joined by special guests Bendigo Fletcher, Grace Cummings, Lacey Guthrie, Future Killer and The Jesse Lee’s on select dates at theaters, amphitheaters, music halls and pavilions all over the country.
As of now, the “Wordless Chorus” group doesn’t have any New York or New Jersey concerts lined up for the spring outing. However, if you want to make the pilgrimage to see them live this year, My Morning Jacket is headlining a pair of festivals.
First, they’ll play all three nights of their self-curated One Big Holiday Festival in Miramar Beach, FL on April 3-5.
Then, on May 4, the Louisville natives will wrap their jaunt at the stacked multi-weekend New Orleans Jazz Festival.
“We’d love to see you there,” the band shared in a tour announcement Instagram post.
Fans can purchase tickets for all upcoming My Morning Jacket shows on sites like Vivid Seats; the official on-sale for the ‘My Morning Jacket is On Tour’ tour is Friday, Feb. 7.

My Morning Jacket new music
On Jan. 15, My Morning Jacket released the lead single “Time Waited” from their upcoming album “Is.”
From the jump, the track appears to be a bit more melancholy in its arrangement and lyrics than most of MMJ’s oft-upbeat output. Starting with a twinkly, lonely, pensive piano refrain almost reminiscent of Aphex Twin’s “Avril 14,” the song begins to sound more like the band’s trademark roots-y fare once James’ husky, assured vocals and the chorus “Time waited for you and me” roll in. Around the minute mark, the lovely minimalist tune morphs into a euphoric anthem that feels straight up celebratory and far from melancholic.
