Rangers aren’t doing Brennan Othmann — or themselves — any favors

This may not be the most pressing issue confronting the Rangers in their playoff scenario that has reached the dire-straits mode after their third straight regulation defeat, this one 4-3 to the Maple Leafs on Thursday at the Garden.

But in its own way, it is reflective of the way the organization has done business for a very long time without winning anything.

Brennan Othmann was the 16th overall selection in the 2021 draft because of his offensive capability. The winger, who could play with an obnoxious edge at times, scored 50 goals in 66 games for OHL Flint in his 18/19 age season the year following the draft. He was not drafted to be Bob Gainey.

But who knew he was drafted to be Christian Dube?
