Olivia Munn, Amy Schumer and Olivia Wilde mock all-female, star-studded Blue Origin launch: ‘What’s the point?’
Not everyone is as happy as Katy Perry and Gayle King about this week’s all-female Blue Origin NS-13 mission.
Amy Schumer and Olivia Wilde were just some of the celebrities who took to social media to criticize the historic space launch led by Jeff Bezos’ fiancée, Lauren Sanchez, on Monday.
Olivia Munn, 44, was one of the first stars to ridicule the “gluttonous” mission earlier this month.
“What are they doing?” the actress said on “Today With Jenna & Friends” on April 3. “I know this probably isn’t the cool thing to say, but there are so many other things that are so important in the world right now.”
“I know this is probably obnoxious,” she continued, “but like, it’s so much money to go to space, and there’s a lot of people who can’t even afford eggs.”
“What’s the point? Is it historic that you guys are going on a ride? I think it’s a bit gluttonous,” Munn added at the time. “Space exploration was to further our knowledge and to help mankind. What are they gonna do up there that has made it better for us down here?”
Schumer, 43, then took to Instagram on the day of the launch to “announce” that she had received a last-minute invite to join Perry, King and Sanchez on the New Shepard 31 spacecraft.
“Guys, last second they added me to space, and I’m going to space,” joked the comedian, holding a Black Panther toy. “I’m bringing this thing. It has no meaning to me, but it was in my bag, and I was on the subway, and I got the text, and they were like, ‘Do you want to go to space?’ so I’m going to space.”
“Thank you to everyone who got me here,” she added. “I’ll see you guys in space.”
Wilde, like Munn, questioned the cost of the Blue Origin endeavor.
“Billion dollars bought some good memes I guess,” the “Don’t Worry Darling” actress and director wrote on her Instagram Story alongside a photo of Perry returning to Earth in Texas and kissing the ground.
Perry, King and Sanchez were joined by civil rights activist Amanda Nguyen, ex-NASA engineer Aisha Bowe and film producer Kerianne Flynn on Monday’s journey, which only gave them four minutes in zero-gravity space.
The six-woman, star-studded team became the first all-female crew to visit space since?Soviet cosmonaut Valentina Tereshkova made a solo flight back in 1963.
However, both Sanchez, 55, and King, 70, were aware of the reservations many had about Bezos’ company’s space flight this week and responded to some of those criticisms shortly after the launch during a press conference.
“Anybody that’s criticizing it doesn’t really understand what is happening here,” King remarked. “We can all speak to the response we’re getting from young women, from young girls about what this represents.”
“I get really fired up. I would love to have them come to Blue Origin and see the thousands of employees that don’t just work here but they put their heart and soul into this vehicle,” Sanchez added. “They love their work and they love the mission and it’s a big deal for them.”
“So when we hear comments like that, I just say, trust me,” Bezos’ fiancée continued. “Come with me. I’ll show you what this is about, and it’s, it’s really eye-opening.”
Celebrities aren’t the only ones not impressed with the star-studded space trip.
Perry was also slammed by the son of the 85-year-old veteran she’s suing for damages, who told The Post exclusively that he hopes her experience “will make her more compassionate to elderly disabled veterans like my father.”
