Real-life Nikki from ‘Dying for Sex’ reveals?which of Molly’s exes have reached out about ‘risky’ show
They always come crawling back.
Nikki Boyer, the creator of the “Dying for Sex” podcast about her best friend Molly Kochan’s sexual escapades during her cancer battle, has heard from some of Kochan’s former flings since the FX on Hulu miseries debuted.
“There were a few gentlemen. OK, so the scene with the guy who ejaculates in the car — the premature ejaculation. He and I are friends now,” Boyer exclusively told The Post. “He’s based on a real story from the podcast. We interviewed him on the podcast and I see him in his scene and he was like, ”Oh my God, I can’t believe this made it into the show.'”
Boyer serves as an executive producer on the show, which is based on the podcast, and is portrayed by Jenny Slate. Michelle Williams plays Kochan, who died in 2019.
The actress and singer said that “car alarm guy” isn’t embarrassed by his and Kochan’s sexual incident being exposed in both the podcast and show.
“I think at first in the very beginning he was like, ‘I don’t know, do I really want to talk about this?’ And then I think he was like… which is the point of the story, don’t have any shame in your sexual awakening,” Boyer said. “If it’s messy, it’s funny.”
“Shame and sexuality are so tied, and I think he decided to let go of that, which for a man I thought was really bold and beautiful,” Boyer explained. “And the fact that he came on the podcast and now knows that this is in the world. He’s just one of my favorite humans. I love him for that.”
Boyer said she’s heard from another one of Kochan’s exes who they’ve never spoken about publicly.
“He’s not included in the TV show. He’s not included in the podcast. Rob Delaney’s character is kind of a combination of three different men that Molly was having feelings for. And this guy was one of them, but he never spoke to us because he was so deeply heartbroken about Molly’s passing,” Boyer shared.
She added: “I haven’t heard from him in four years and he just reached out to me a few days ago and was like, ‘I am cracked open by this, and I wished I would have maybe communicated with you before, but I just couldn’t. I was so stricken with grief about her passing.'”
“And so now there’s some people starting to reach out and just say, ‘Oh my gosh, I can’t believe she’s still alive in the world,”‘ Boyer said. “And so, yeah, that’s interesting to have people from the past kind of coming back and saying, ‘Hey, remember me?'”
“And the guy that wouldn’t speak to us was a mortician. So he revealed to me that he brought her to his work and showed her what embalming was and that they had a lot of conversations about death and about what happens to your body,” Boyer revealed. “So I think there was a real connection there.”
Boyer has also been in touch with Kochan’s mom (played by Sissy Spacek) since the show came out.
“Her mom came with me to the beautiful premiere and she loves it. I didn’t know really what her response was going to be,” Boyer told The Post. “I know how deeply she loves Molly and how grateful she is that the story is continuing in the world. She loves it. She got to meet Michelle, which was a beautiful moment at the premiere. They got to really connect and have some time together. And I think it was very healing for Molly’s mom.”
“I’m talking to her like on the regular and I just love it because I feel like it gives me a little piece of Molly. I think it gives her mom a little piece of Molly as well,” Boyer added. “So we are very connected and I’m so grateful that she’s happy.”
As “Dying for Sex” gets rave reviews from critics and generates Emmy buzz, Boyer knows that Kochan is smiling down on her from heaven.
“I think she’s blown away. I think she’s proud. I think she is proud of herself. I think she’s proud of me,” Boyer said about her late friend.
“This show forces you to take a deep, dark look within yourself and with the state of the world and where things are right now, I didn’t know if we collectively as humans were ready for this, but the response that I’ve received from people shows me that we’re all ready to be cracked open,” Boyer continued. “We’re all looking for deeper meaning. And it kind of resurged my confidence in humanity and everybody, because it was a risky show and FX took some really beautiful risks.”
“I’m so proud of everyone for being able to receive this kind of content,” Boyer added. “This kind of heartfelt joy and grief, just all mixed together.”
