By now, most consumers are well aware of the impact that President Trump’s tariffs on China could have on Amazon products. But, in a wave of slightly better news, some hot commodities are actually going on sale before prices spike.
On Monday, the Trump administration announced that tech products, including phones and electronics, would be exempt from the import tax. But, the relief is only temporary, and prices of popular gadgets could climb in the near future. Among those that could be affected by trade tension is the Kindle Scribe, one of Amazon’s most popular e-readers and notetaking devices.
The Scribe is currently marked down nearly 20%, providing shoppers with a last-minute opportunity to snatch it up while it’s on sale. It’s unclear how much time tech products have to live tariff-free, but Amazon executives are weary that the trickle-down effect of Trump’s tariff strategy could impact a slew of goods.
“I’m guessing that sellers will pass that cost on,” Amazon CEO Andy Jassy warned during an interview when discussing the cost of tariffs. “And I understand why, I mean, depending on which country you’re in, you don’t have 50% extra margin that you can play with.”
