Jemele Hill brings race into Sherrone Moore scandal

Jemele Hill doesn’t seem to think Sherrone Moore will get another shot at coaching college football.

The Atlantic contributor and former ESPNer cautioned those attempting to lump Moore in with the likes of Mel Tucker and Ime Udoka in the wake of his stunning Michigan firing for an alleged “inappropriate relationship” with a staffer.

“Though I think Sherrone Moore is a cornball, before we start painting his firing, Mel Tucker’s and Ime Udoka’s as some kind of indictment of black male coaches, let me remind you of the following names: Hugh Freeze, Bobby Petrino, Rick Pitino, Mike Price, among others,” she wrote in a post on Threads on Thursday.

“The difference is in who gets a second chance to be a head coach. And you can guess who usually gets another chance.”

Tucker was famously fired from being Michigan State’s football coach after allegations of sexual harassment.

Udoka, currently the coach of the NBA’s Rockets, was terminated by the Celtics over an affair with an underling.

Freeze, Petrino, Pitino and Price were all forced to resign from cherry NCAA coaching jobs over scandals — many involving affairs, harassment, boorish behavior and academic and recruiting violations — and went on to find new jobs in the college sports space.

While they all are indeed white, none of them ever stood accused of stalking a staffer they’d allegedly had a relationship or showing up to their apartment with a knife and threatening to harm themselves, as is Moore’s current predicament.

The 39-year-old was fired from his post on Wednesday in a shocking move that was followed by the revelation he had been detained by local police.

Here’s the latest on former Michigan coach Sherrone Moore

The married father of three has spent the days since in custody, and faces charges felony home invasion and with stalking and breaking and entering, per a criminal complaint levied Friday.

Moore is in the midst of his second season as head coach of the No. 17 Wolverines — interim coach Biff Poggi will lead the team into its Citrus Bowl matchup against Texas on Dec. 31 — and in his eighth on staff.

He was a member of Jim Harbaugh’s coaching staff before Harbaugh bolted for the NFL’s Chargers after multiple scandals of his own, including recruiting violations and a sign-stealing scheme.
