CRAIG Kilborn’s show is in hot water over an offensive George W. Bush joke last week.
On last Friday’s “The Late Late Show,” a graphic reading “Snipers Wanted” appeared briefly over a tape of Bush’s acceptance speech at the Republican National Convention.
The joke was part of the satiric “In the News” segment of the late night show.
Yesterday, CBS and the show’s producers, David Letterman’s Worldwide Pants, apologized for the graphic.
“This graphic – which was not accompanied by any remarks from Craig Kilborn – should not have been included in the telecast and is not consistent with our broadcast standards,” said the statement. “CBS and Worldwide Pants Inc. … deeply regret this incident.”
“CBS is now concluding a review of this matter and will take appropriate action when this process is complete,” it read.
The incident was little-noticed when it happened, but a lively debate has begun to surface on the internet in recent days.
The conservative website, freerepublic.com, even posted a freeze-frame of the show – showing the offensive graphic superimposed over Bush.
