THE ratings for Monday night’s edition of “The Late Show with David Letterman” – where Dan Rather cried – were more than 100 percent higher than usual, according to early Nielsen estimates.
The ratings, which were preliminary, indicate that Letterman doubled his normal Monday audience of about 4.2 million viewers.
The show was the first of the late-night talk shows to return to the air after the World Trade Center terror attacks.
Letterman’s ratings dropped on Tuesday night – but were still 32 percent higher – when his rival Jay Leno took to the air for the first time.
Leno averaged a 6.6 rating or about 5.2 million viewers, according to early Nielsen estimates.
