In a rare and controversial solution to a child custody case, a woman has been allowed to return to her native Long Island with her kids on the condition they communicate with their father through online virtual visits.
In resolving the bitter custody battle, a Massachusetts judge ordered Lorraine Baltzer – who’s moving from the Boston suburb of Needham – to have her three children available for twice-weekly one-hour video conferencings with their dad, Paul Cleri.
Baltzer, 42, who grew up in Albertson, suggested the virtual visits as a result of her ex-husband’s opposition to her returning to Long Island.
But Cleri, 44, who had asked for primary custody of the kids, plans to appeal the decision, which was handed down Tuesday.
Similar rulings have been made around the country, but never in New York.
Neither Baltzer nor Cleri could be reached for comment yesterday.
