Robert De Niro is among the scores of people whom city officials have asked to read the names of the Sept. 11 victims during next week’s tribute.
Others are expected to include Secretary of State Colin Powell and Assembly Speaker Sheldon Silver.
De Niro said he’d been chosen because of work he did to help lower Manhattan after the terror attacks. Among other things, he organized the Tribeca Film Festival.
Some family members have expressed concern that there will be too many celebrities. But City Hall has said the majority of people reading names will be victims’ relatives. They’ll be joined by a cross-section of people, including rescue workers and others with ties to lower Manhattan.
