Disgraced former New York Times reporter Jayson Blair’s downfall at the newspaper and his bravado during the aftermath proves he is “delusional” and “pathetic,” a mental-health expert said yesterday.
“On one hand, he was being self destructive, on the other he was hoping to bring down the Times in grandiose fashion,” said Dr. Patricia Farrell, a prominent New Jersey psychologist.
Farrell said Blair’s comments in this week’s New York Observer are cause for concern.
“This is such a sad commentary, all the references to suicide and destruction,” she said.
Blair’s statements in the article show he is out of touch with reality and immature.
“This is a raging young man. He’s going to burn himself out,” Farrell said.
