HOWARD Stern and his galpal, Beth Ostrosky, are fuming that WNYW/Ch. 5 anchor Rosanna Scotto described Ostrosky’s debut on the Fox 10 O’Clock News Tuesday as a report by Stern’s girlfriend.
Stern felt that Fox 5 used her in order to get his name into their broadcast. Ostrosky called into Stern’s show yesterday to say she had a deal with station officials that they would not mention her private life on the air and was furious that Scotto did.
Scotto never actually used the word girlfriend while promoting the segment, but made it clear that Stern and Ostrosky were in a relationship. “I’m not supposed to say this, but…” said Scotto, alluding to Ostrosky’s relationship to the shock jock.
Stern blamed Scotto’s remarks on her boss, Fox 5 news director Neil Goldstein.
“I didn’t think it was a big deal,” Scotto protested yesterday when she called in to the show to defend herself and Goldstein after Stern began bashing them at about 7:30 a.m.
“Well for you it wasn’t a big deal,” said Stern calling Scotto a liar. “But for her it was, and the deal with Neil was you were going to respect that (arrangement) and he was going make it clear to people. I’m sure if Neil had said ahead of time not to do that (mention the relationship) and had said it in a real way, you would have taken it to heart,” Stern said.
“I have to be honest with you,” Scotto said. “I mean it’s common knowledge that you’re dating and I didn’t think it was a big deal.”
Newsroom sources at Fox 5 told The Post that Scotto was set up. Before the broadcast and during the commercials she asked several times if it was okay to allude to Ostrosky’s relationship with Stern. She was told it was OK.
A station spokeswoman said “the piece was great, Beth was great and we feel that we lived up to every ounce of our agreement.”
In Ostrosky’s report, she attended a recent party thrown by Fox and asked various actresses and actors if they’d ever pose for a magazine wearing little or no clothing. Ostrosky herself has posed for lad magazines like FHM and has a new calendar on sale soon.
WNYW/Ch.5 is a division of News Corp., which also owns The Post.
