Gubernatorial candidate Eliot Spitzer and attorney-general hopeful Andrew Cuomo stood side-by-side yesterday to accept the endorsements of a statewide coalition of law-enforcement groups.
While Spitzer has repeatedly said that he would not endorse anyone in the AG race, the two have been seen together at several events recently, including marching together at the Dominican Day Parade.
Spitzer told The Post that he appeared with Cuomo on the steps of City Hall yesterday afternoon only because they were both being endorsed by the Grand Council of Guardians, a 20,000-member umbrella organization that represents black law-enforcement groups.
“I take no action in the AG race,” Spitzer said.
Cuomo was elusive as well, saying only that he “enjoys spending time with him.”
But both men have been endorsed by several of the same groups. They even use the same agency for their advertisements, as well as the same polling firm.
“Eliot and Andrew have always had a good relationship,” said Spitzer spokeswoman Christine Anderson, “but Eliot is not taking a position in the race.”
