Hee-haw!
The “Jackass: Number 2” gang stampeded over the rest of the malemovie pack this weekend – kicking its way to the No. 1 spot at the box office with a three-day take of $28.1 million.
“This was a testosteronedriven weekend, especially with ‘Jackass’ at No. 1,” said Paul Dergarabedian, president of boxoffice tracker Exhibitor Relations.
The other boys-makingnoise flicks that dominated the top four included “Jet Li’s Fearless” ($10.6 million), “Gridiron Gang” ($9.7 million) and “Flyboys” ($6 million), according to studio estimates.
The G-rated “Everyone’s Hero” came in at No. 5, with $4.8 million.
A spokeswoman for Paramount, which distributed “Jackass: Number Two,” said that 65 percent of the movie’s audience were men and 70 percent were under the age of 25.
The comedy sequel made over $5 million more in its debut than the first installment, which pulled in $22.8 million during its opening weekend in 2002, the spokeswoman said.
“I figured this one would really take off and it did,” added Dergarabedian.
“They made back their budget in the first day – $11.6 million.
That’s very impressive.” Rounding out the top 10 this weekend were the critically roasted “The Black Dahlia” ($4.4 million), directed by Brian De Palma; “All The King’s Men” ($3.8 million), which opened to mixed reviews; “The Covenant” ($3.3 million); “The Illusionist” ($3.3 million); and “Little Miss Sunshine” ($2.9 million).
