It’s made out of recycled patterns, but don’t call this Louis Vuitton creation an old bag – or a cheap one.
The French brand has created the most expensive handbag ever – the $42,000 Tribute Patchwork Bag, which has fashion fiends in a frenzy.
The must-have accessory for the ultra-rich is part of the company’s spring collection. It is so exclusive that only 24 will be made. Of those, only four are coming to the U.S., “and they are already taken, including one by a New York customer,” a spokeswoman said. That customer isn’t a celebrity, she added.
The Tribute is a medium-size shoulder bag with a gold chain that’s made up of 15 favorite patterns from previous collections, all cut, patched, sewn and glued together.
“This bag is definitely a piece of art. It’s a collectible,” the she said.
Despite the fact that Louis Vuitton bags are the most counterfeited in the world, the Patchwork was crafted to ensure it can’t be faked.
“With the 15 different patterns you need, all the material and craftsmanship, it’s nearly impossible to make a fake,” the spokeswoman claimed. The bag was designed by Marc Jacobs, artistic director of Louis Vuitton, along with a team of executives. (Jacobs recently entered drug and alcohol rehab for second time, see Page Six.)
“You pay for the patterns and for the fact that each bag is handmade in Paris,” the spokeswoman said.
It comes in a transparent trunk beautiful enough to be a bag itself. It has specially molded interior pockets and comes complete with leather handles.
