WHEN you think of lacy lingerie, you traditionally think of supermodels like Kate Moss or glamazons like Giselle Bundchen or Heidi Klum.
Now, according to new ads from lingerie empire Agent Provocateur, you’re supposed to think of the mom-next-door, Maggie Gyllenhaal.
The indie actress has taken over for Moss by disrobing as the new spokeswoman for the sexy nighties line. While seductively posing in lacey panties, her post-baby body has people wondering: Are curvaceous mamas the new babelicious?
“Motherhood has become a definite aesthetic,” says Andi Zeisler, co-founder and editorial director of Bitch Magazine. “Maggie Gyllenhaal is a mother, and moms have become a badge. Instead of hiding their pregnancies and babies, they are out there and sexy.”
“Maggie is beautiful in a not-so-sexualized way, and because of that she appeals to the average soccer mom, which is who is buying this stuff and who is hot right now,” adds Cooper Lawrence, author of the advice book “Been There, Done That, Kept the Jewelry.” “Look at Madonna. Lots of mothers in their 30s and older are just gorgeous, and because Maggie represents that, real women in her position have something to look up to, and men who have wives in her position have something to buy.
“This is what feminism is about. The message here is that you can be in your 30s, be a mom, have a few extra pounds on you and still be desirable.”
Moe Tkacik, editor of Jezebel.com agrees. “Maggie Gyllenhaal is an interesting choice because she kind of restores the element of romance in lingerie that Kate Moss cannot. She’s the image of a mother whose biggest role is her kid, and that’s sexy right now.” marina.vataj@nypost.com
