A Brooklyn couple was robbed at gunpoint in Central Park last night, striking fear in the hearts of local residents.
The victims were at a gazebo near West Drive and 74th Street when the thug approached them at around 8:44 p.m., cops said.
He pulled out a silver handgun and forced the woman to hand over her purse – with $300 and a cellphone inside – and took $100 from the man.
The thief was described as an unshaven black or Hispanic man in his 30s wearing a tan hat, tan button down shirt and jeans.
“I feel less safe now,” said Simon Satamovsky, 49, who lives in the area.
His companion, Marina Voyna, was less fearful.
“It can happen any time of day any place,” she said. “It’s no different than anywhere else.”
Robin Mushkin, 39, walking with her husband, Seth, 48, said, “I was just saying it’s scary in here.”
Added Seth: “If it gets worse in our neighborhood, then we’ll be very careful when we come into the park.”
