The agent for Allan Houston gave a strong indication yesterday that he was leaning toward the Knicks due to his family situation. Houston’s wife, Tammi is due about now and he doesn’t want to be away from the baby. The Houstons live in Greenwich, Conn. – 20 minutes from the Knicks practice site in Greenburgh. But Houston also doesn’t want to commit until his wife gives birth and everything in the household is settled, according to my interview with agent Bill Strickland. So if he decides to take the Knicks up on their open invitation of a tryout, he could miss the week in Charleston.
It just seems a big longshot for Houston to crack this roster chockful of guards. But he’s got a massive ego and it’s clear he wants to go out on his terms, not because of the knees. He probably wants to make sure he can’t do it anymore.
If anything, as Stephon Marbury pointed out, he’d be a good influence on the young players in camp. As I wrote today, James Dolan probably views Houston as Isiah Thomas’ heir apparent. It’s a low risk move, having Houston in camp and it will be interesting if he can pull off this medical miracle after his knees were completely shot with major cartilage damage.

The jury deliberations will spill into Monday on the sexual harassment suit, meaning Thomas will likely miss Media Day and perhaps the flight to Charleston. Can you say embarrassing? At this point, it doesn’t matter if he wins or loses, the jury obviously found lots of merit in Anucha’s claim, judging by the stuff they requested Friday.
