TV personalities are becoming very vocal about wanting to step onto “Dancing With The Stars'” parquet floor. The fifth season is only half over, but already, stars from other ABC/Disney shows are lining up and asking – out loud — for a shot.
“It’s not if I do ‘Dancing With The Stars,'” says Paige Hemmis, the leggy blonde carpenter from “Extreme Makeover: Home Edition.” “It’s when. The only reason I couldn’t do it this time was that we’re in the middle of our shooting schedule. But maybe by next spring, I’ll be in the clear.”
Then there’s “Bachelor” host Chris Harrison. “I’d do it in a heartbeat,” he says. “I’m a big fan and it seems like so much fun.” The problem, says Harrison, is that on Monday nights “Dancing” is on right before “The Bachelor.”
“They said it would be awkward if I was on a show that led into my own show,” says Harrison.
Even the stars of Disney’s megahit “High School Musical” want to get in on the action. Corbin Bleu, who plays Chad Danforth in versions one and two of the story, was in the “Dancing” audience week two, cheering for his Disney comrade, “The Cheetah Girls'” Sabrina Bryan.
“I’d love to do this,” says Bleu. “I’d go out there and mambo.” So why doesn’t he? “I don’t know if they’d actually allow me to because I’ve trained in ballroom for two years and I know they don’t want that. The whole point is to show people learning to ballroom dance.”
Still, these three have reason to hope. Every season, “Dancing” looks in house for Disney/ABC stars to sprinkle into the mix. The first season, “General Hospital”‘s Kelly Monaco took home the disco ball trophy. Season three, one of the dancers was “High School Musical”‘s Monique Coleman. Fourth season, “Hannah Montana”‘s Billy Ray Cyrus. This season, “All My Children”‘s Cameron Mathison and Disney’s Bryan. Bryan took her mom to the show last spring as a Mother’s Day present. The young star said she wanted to leap out onto the floor. “I told my agent, ‘I don’t care what I have to do. I have to get on that show.'”
