According to Jonah Goldberg, another liberal Democrat, Sen. Dianne Feinstein, has woken up and smelled the coffee – at least when it comes to the Senate cafeteria (“Do as Dems Say, Not as They Dine,” PostOpinion, June 11).
Because the lousy food in the Senate cafeteria adversely affects her, Feinstein wishes to “privatize” it.
What about some of the lousy services we civilians get, such as late postage delivery, endless lines at the DMV or, the really big mess, Social Security?
Why not privatize them? I understand; they don’t affect her.

Apparently, the Senate’s restaurants have lost $2 million this year and $18 million since 1983.
The government can’t even run a restaurant, yet it wants to take over our health care?
I think I’m going to be sick.

As soon as the government finally gets a taste, literally, of what happens when it subsidizes things with our tax dollars, it wants to privatize them.
And it still took 20 years for that taste to settle.
This is a perfect example, albeit a small one, of how privatization works and why subsidization is an utter failure.
How fast would politicians work to privatize Social Security if they were removed from their lavish government pension plans and forced to pay into another failed government program?
