As the plow prepares to speed down Broadway with William H. Macy, its former star, Jeremy Piven, predicted his successor will “hit it out of the park.”
“I know he’ll be extraordinary in the role,” Piven told The Post.
He also had kind words for Raul Esparza and Elizabeth Moss, his former co-stars in “Speed-the-Plow.”
“Raul and Elizabeth are pitch perfect in their roles,” Piven said.
Macy tonight replaces Norbert Leo Butz, who has been filling in for Piven since Dec. 23, following one week with understudy Jordan Lage in the role.
Piven abruptly left the show four weeks ago, claiming he got mercury poisoning from eating sushi.
Speaking to Fox News at the Golden Globes, Piven insisted, “I was so sick for most of the run of the show. Some days, I would sleep until the time I had to go to the theater.
“Finally I went to a doctor . . . He said, ‘You’ve got to stop working.’ “After Piven quit the play, the playwright quipped: “My understanding is that he is leaving show business to pursue a career as a thermometer.”
“But what do you expect?” Piven told Fox. “He’s a great writer.”
