With yesterday’s announcement that Anthony Mason Jr. has been granted a medical hardship and will be eligible to play for St. John’s in 2009-10, coach Norm Roberts has a good problem on his hands:
What does he do with all those talented wing players?
Joining Mason at the small forward/shooting guard positions are Paris Horne, Quincy Roberts and highly touted recruits Omari Lawrence and Dwight Hardy.
“Having quality competition at every position is what you want in your program,” St. John’s coach Norm Roberts told The Post in a telephone interview. “We don’t promise our guys anything, so they know that coming in. You get what you earn.”

Fordham got its first bit of good news in quite some time, announcing yesterday that its best player, Jio Fontan, would return for his sophomore season.
The Rams’ leading scorer a year ago, the former St. Anthony’s (NJ) star contemplated leaving the program, which went just 3-25 a year ago.
“After meeting with Jio Fontan and his family he decided to remain at Fordham,” head coach Dereck Whittenburg said in a statement. “He has always had an open invitation to stay and we welcome him back with open arms.”
