A man shot dead by cops during a wild chase in Washington Heights had just ripped off a pair of drug buyers before twice surging toward officers with his Cadillac, police said yesterday.
About 8 p.m. Wednesday, Maximo “Flaco” Peguerro, 28, and three accomplices sold phony marijuana to two buyers who spent $500, a police spokesman said.
When the buyers protested, Peguerro and his cohorts took off. The buyers gave chase, flagging down cops who sped after the men and broadcast a description of the Caddy.
Two other cops heard the description and tried to box them in at 188th Street and Amsterdam Avenue. The cops yelled, “Police! Freeze!” and Peguerro drove at them.
One of the cops fired a shot through the windshield. Peguerro backed up and drove at the cop, who fired a fatal shot at Peguerro, the spokesman said.
