U.S. President Barack Obama called former president Bill Clinton to wish him a speedy recovery from heart surgery on Thursday, a White House official said.
Shortly before 7 p.m, Obama called Clinton and the two men discussed Clinton’s work in Haiti, the official said.
Clinton was asked to spearhead relief efforts in Haiti by Obama following a devastating earthquake in January and Clinton said he hoped he’d be ready to get back to work as soon as possible.
The 63-year-old said he was feeling “absolutely great” after getting two stents inserted in one of his coronary arteries on Thursday after complaining of chest pains.
He is currently recovering at the Columbia Campus of New York Presbyterian Hospital with his daughter Chelsea and wife Secretary of State Hillary Clinton by his side.
Former President George W. Bush, who has been working with Clinton on Haiti relief efforts, has also sent his best wishes.
Clinton underwent quadruple bypass surgery in 2004 to free four blocked arteries.
