John Faso, the GOP’s nominee in 2006 who was also a close ally of Ed Cox who helped him secure the chairmanship last year, told The Knickerbocker he’s backing Steve Levy because the state is financially “going over a cliff.”
Faso, who spoke about ten minutes before he was to join other Republicans at a presser with Levy in Albany, had been fairly quiet publicly as Cox’s courtship of the Suffolk County Executive – the worst-kept secret in state politics – began last year.
But he noted his major concern is the fiscal situation in New York – and said Levy “has a specific plan to address” the problems.
Of Rick Lazio, he said, “I like Rick.” But he made clear Levy is his preferred choice – although he declined to discuss whether he thinks Lazio will be able to keep his now-rival off the ballot at the convention in June.
