CLEVELAND — Arn Tellem, agent for Joe Johnson, said he will meet again today with the Hawks – a sign the guard is leaning in Atlanta’s favor. The Knicks met with Johnson last night for nearly three hours.
In an e-mail to The Post, Tellem wrote, “We met with the Hawks and Knicks last night and have heard a number of other teams with significant interest in Joe. At this point, Joe has many great options to choose from. We plan to meet with the Hawks again today to discuss the details of their offer and we hope to make a decision in the near future.”
Sources have indicated Amar’e Stoudemire is interested in the Knicks but a big part of it is to reunite with Johnson in New York. Both are former Suns.
The Hawks reportedly offered the maximum contract for six years, $119 million — $30 million more than the Knicks can offer.
Happy Walters, agent for Stoudemire, confirmed Mike D’Antoni talked briefly’ with Stoudemire at midnight last night and is considering visiting New York on July 4th weekend, but nothing is set in stone.
The Knicks, with owner James Dolan leading the brigade, began their meeting today with LeBron James at 1 p.m. at Maverick Carter’s LRMR offices in downtown Cleveland.
