Even though the Lions dropped their 24th consecutive road game with Sunday’s 28-20 loss to the Giants, super rookie defensive tackle Ndamukong Suh made his presence felt. He was a factor throughout the game with 1 1/2 sacks, two tackles for loss, and three quarterback hits.
“I think he’s got every tool to be a great player,’’ said right guard Chris Snee, who went up against Suh. “If he keeps his head on straight he’ll be a great player.’’
Suh could not prevent the Giants from coming through with a balanced offensive attack. They scored a touchdown in every quarter, rushed for 167 yards, got two touchdown passes from Eli Manning, and had 24 first downs.
“I think we were able to do things we wanted to do,’’ Snee said. “We just missed a couple of plays where we should have had more points on the board. Overall we ran the ball effectively and Eli was effective with the ball.’’
Some other notables coming out of the game:
– With 64 rushing yards allowed, the Giants have held their opponent to less than 65 rushing yards in three straight games.
– After pleading from Tom Coughlin, the offense did not have a turnover for the first time in nearly a year, since Dec. 21, 2009 when they won at Washington 45-12. The lone turnover by the Giants was Matt Dodge’s fumble on his first punt attempt.
– Ahmad Bradshaw’s 133 rushing yards was the second-highest total of his career. He gained 151 yards as a rookie at Buffalo on Dec. 23, 2007. Bradshaw’s 45-yard run was the longest by the Giants since Derrick Ward had a 51-yard run vs. Carolina on Dec. 21, 2008.
– Eli Manning threw for 177 yards, boosting his career yardage total to 20,123. He’s the second Giants quarterback to surpass 20,000 passing yards. Manning has a ways to go before reaching Phil Simms, who is first on the franchise list with 33,462.
– Calvin Johnson’s 87-yard touchdown catch for the Lions was the longest scoring pass thrown against the Giants since Jan. 2, 2000, when Jason Tucker of the Cowboys caught a 90-yarder from Troy Aikman.
