As the NFL lockout drags on, free agent wide receiver Brad Smith waits and waits.
Smith has a become a multipurpose weapon for the Jets, running, receiving, throwing and returning kicks. But the team may not be able to hold onto him because of all the free agents they have to try to re-sign.
Appearing on WFAN Friday, Smith said he hopes to remain with the Jets, but he also wants to see what other teams have to offer.
“They drafted me,” Smith said of the Jets. “They gave me an opportunity. I love the coaches and my teammates. It’s definitely a special group of guys. At the same time, I think it would be wise to see what the market looks like and what other situations may be out there. I think it would be wise as a man to do that, to see what’s best for my family and I, not just money-wise but opportunities. We’ll go from there. I definitely would love to stay with the Jets.”
Smith rushed for 299 yards last year, had 44 receiving yards, threw a touchdown and brought two kickoffs back for touchdowns.
Smith is one of three free agent wide receivers, along with Santonio Holmes and Braylon Edwards, whom the Jets must make a decision on once free agency begins.
