The Kings might be NHL Stanley Cup champions, but they won’t be making many friends in the mixed martial arts community any time soon.
Answering a Twitter invitation from the UFC to attend next week’s UFC on FOX at Staples Center in Los Angeles, the Kings tweeted back: “Sorry. The cup is only for those who play a real sport,” according to an SB Nation report.
The UFC will be in the Kings’ home building Aug. 4 for a card headlined by a light heavyweight fight between Mauricio (Shogun) Rua and Brandon Vera. The UFC’s invite read:
“We got a VIP ticket with Lord Stanley’s name on it for #UFConFOX at Staples…#BringHimHome,” the MMA company tweeted.
The Kings’ reply has since been deleted. It now reads, “We may be busy parading our big shiny trophy around the world.” The UFC recently responded: “Our checking line > your checking line.”
This isn’t the first time the Kings’ Twitter page has drawn ire. Back in April, following a 4-2 win over the Canucks, they tweeted: “To everyone in Canada outside of BC, you’re welcome.”
