Traffic’s taking a back seat the next few Saturdays.
Yesterday marked the return of the Department of Transportation’s Summer Streets program, which aims to increase recreational space and to urge New Yorkers to use more sustainable forms of transportation.
Nearly seven miles — from the Brooklyn Bridge to Central Park along Lafayette Street and Park Avenue — were closed off to traffic between 7 a.m. and 1 p.m.
People strolled, biked, climbed a Spring Street rock wall or soared on a 160-foot- long zip line at Foley Square. Art installations and dance classes were also available.
In case you missed out, the fun will resume on Aug. 11 and 18 — with all activities again free of charge.
