The Jets were the butt of the joke even at a concert raising money for hurricane relief.
In Adam Sandler’s “Sandy, Screw Ya” song Wednesday night at the 12-12-12 benefit at Madison Square Garden, the comedian referenced Mark Sanchez’s butt fumble during the Jets’ embarrassing Thanksgiving loss to the Patriots.
“Cause we believe this too shall pass,” Sandler sings. “Like when Sanchez fumbled into an ass.”
On the infamous play, which has been played over and over on blooper reels, Sanchez ran head first into offensive lineman Brandon Moore’s backside and fumbled, allowing the Patriots to return the ball for a touchdown. It was the low moment of the season and the horrific 49-19 loss to the team’s biggest rivals.
Sanchez wasn’t the only victim of Sandler’s lyrics. He touched on Alex Rodriguez giving two women in the stands his number on a baseball during the playoffs, the Mets’ struggles and Isiah Thomas’ misadventures with the Knicks. Sandler also poked fun of New Jersey losing the Nets now that the team is good.
“The Mets have sucked since ’86, Isiah tried to ruin the Knicks, but now Jason Kidd and the boys can freakin’ school ya,” sang Sandler, a Brooklyn native.
The verses drew raucous laughs from the crowd, though Jets fans were probably biting their tongues.
Here are the full sports lyrics:
Cause we believe this too shall pass
Like when Sanchez fumbled into an ass
And A-Rod during the playoffs telling girls in the crowd, I wanna do ya
The Mets have sucked since ’86, Isiah tried to ruin the Knicks
But now Jason Kidd and the boys can freakin’ school ya
Hallelujah
Sandy, screw ya
We’ll get through ya
Cause we’re New Yorkers
