LOS ANGELES — For at least another night, Yasiel Puig would be Public Enemy No. 1 for the Mets.
The colorful Dodgers outfielder irked several members of the Mets on Wednesday with his showboating after hitting a home run against Tyler Pill.
Puig not only stood in the batter’s box admiring the blast, but took 32 seconds to round the bases, during which he jawed with Wilmer Flores and Travis d’Arnaud. Between innings, Yoenis Cespedes and Jose Reyes chatted with Puig.
“Obviously [showboating] is one of those subjects that can rub people the wrong way,” Jay Bruce said. “He’s been doing stuff like that for a long time now.”
But Bruce dismissed the notion of a grudge-match forming between the Mets and Dodgers, who play only two series each season against each other. The Dodgers will play at Citi Field from Aug. 4-6.
“He’s the least of my worries,” Bruce said.
Jose Reyes said the drama following Puig’s showboating incident was over, but he wasn’t thrilled with the controversial right fielder.
“If you hit a homer, run the bases,” Reyes said. “Don’t walk for four or five steps and then run slow.”
But Reyes doubted there would be a lingering effect.
“It’s hard for us to focus on one player when we as a team aren’t playing so good right now,” Reyes said.
