Chris Matthews apologizes for making ‘Cosby pill’ joke before Hillary interview
Chris Matthews apologized Friday for a tasteless quip he made about a “Bill Cosby pill.”
The MSNBC host said it was a particularly disgusting joke in light of recent news about powerful men accused of sexually harassment and assault.
“This was a terrible comment I made in poor taste during the height of the Bill Cosby headlines,” Matthews said in statement.
“I realize that’s no excuse. I deeply regret it and I’m sorry.”
Matthews was preparing to interview Hillary Clinton on January 5, 2016 inside an Iowa fire station when he asked for a glass of water – and inexplicably veered into the nonsensical Cosby remark.
“Can I have some of the queen’s waters? Precious waters?” said Matthews, host of his nightly show “Hardball.”
“Where’s that Bill Cosby pill I brought with me?”
The pervy joke was caught on camera and first revealed by New York magazine’s “The Cut.”
Cosby has been accused by scores of women of sexual assault – often with the use of date-rape pills.
The disgraced comic has been charged with sexually assaulting a former employee of his alma mater Temple University and faces a trial in April.
