Jets right guard Brian Winters had a down year in 2017 … with good reason.
Winters tore abdomen and abductor muscles in Week 2 against the Raiders, but played through the pain for most of the season. He started 13 games before undergoing surgery in December.
“It was horrendous,” Winters said on a conference call Monday. “I wouldn’t give that to even my worst enemy. It was something that was very tough and hurtful, from the time I woke up to the time I went to bed. Not only when I was doing stuff. Just walking in general was painful.”
Winters joined his teammates Monday as the Jets began offseason workouts. He said he is now 100 percent and has been cleared to participate fully in the Jets offseason program.
Now healthy, Winters has a simple goal.
“To be a dominant offensive lineman,” he said. “I was on the right track the year before, and then this injury happened. To me, [being healthy is] going to be a game changer. If you put an offensive guard out there with one leg, and try to do what he’s supposed to do, it’s kind of tough.”
