New York Times deletes Twitter poll asking if Ford’s testimony is ‘credible’

The New York Times’ Opinions page put up a poll about Christine Blasey Ford’s testimony before the Senate Judiciary Committee on Twitter — and then had to yank it down amid outrage that it was insensitive.

“Do you find her testimony credible?” the poll tweet asked, offering users the response options “Yes,” “No” and “Unsure.”

Some people wondered why the poll was necessary and said it was inappropriate for the Times to question an alleged victim of sexual abuse.

“What exactly are you trying to achieve?” tweeted @TomiLaffly. “Why are you giving credibility to Dr. Ford’s detractors?”

Others simply called it trite.

“How about not trivializing extremely important and complex issues in a freaking Twitter poll?” wrote @SFreidin.

Added @MichaelHeilman: “Why are you even polling about their credibility, I thought you were a newspaper?”

The Times apologized for the tweet and deleted it after the swift backlash.

“In retrospect, a Twitter poll is insensitive in light of the gravity of this hearing. We’ve deleted it,” they said. “We also recognize that asking only about Dr. Blasey’s credibility was inappropriate. We had intended to tweet a second poll about Judge Kavanaugh’s credibility this afternoon.”

A spokesperson for the Times referred The Post to the apologetic tweet.
