The New York Islanders’ surprising first-round pick is officially under contract.
The team announced on Monday that Simon Holmstrom has agreed to a three-year, entry-level deal.
Holmstrom was selected 23rd overall by the Isles in the 2019 NHL Draft last month, a pick many didn’t see coming. The 18-year-old is fresh off a solid season with HV71 J20 team of the SuperElit League in Sweden, collecting 20 points (seven goals, 13 assists) in 21 games. He contributed three points (one goal, two assists) in three SuperElit playoff games.
The lefty winger inked the standard, entry-level annual average salary of $925,000 for $2.775 million over the three years, but there are no performance bonus incentives.
The Devils gave No. 1 overall pick Jack Hughes a pact worth up to $11.325 million, including $2.85 million in annual bonuses, while the Rangers No. 2 pick, Kappo Kakko, has a similar deal worth $10.75 million with $2.65 million in yearly bonuses.
