The Los Angeles Lakers are keeping their final roster spot open, patiently awaiting the fate of Andre Iguodala.
If the rebuilding Grizzlies buy Iguodala out after acquiring him from Golden State, the Lakers would jump on adding the veteran to their overhauled roster.
“Leaving a spot open to potentially get Andre Iguodala if he is bought out of his $17.2 million deal,” ESPN’s Dave McMenamin said on “SportsCenter.”
“We’re talking about a former Finals MVP, a guy who was repped by Lakers GM Rob Pelinka when he was an agent, and a guy who just as recently in Game 6 of the NBA Finals dropped 22 points, almost forcing a Game 7 back in Toronto. They feel like he could be an X-factor type of guy to add with the group they already have.”
The Grizzlies, who took Ja Morant at No. 2 overall in the NBA Draft, traded longtime guard Mike Conley to the Jazz. It’s unclear when, or if, Memphis will let Iguodala join a contender. Earlier this month the Grizzlies were reportedly looking to trade Iguodala to get something in return.
The Lakers have certainly primed their roster towards becoming potential championship contenders for the upcoming 2019-20 season after pairing Anthony Davis with LeBron James.
