A former middle school teacher and her husband, an ex-sheriff’s deputy, were reportedly indicted by a Louisiana grand jury Tuesday on 150 counts — including child rape — after they allegedly sexually abused a child together.
The ex teacher, 34-year-old Cynthia Perkins, and her husband, 44-year-old Dennis Perkins, had been arrested in October and hit with child rape and pornography charges after investigators found photos that showed them nude together with the child, Fox reported.
After Tuesday’s grand jury hearing, the couple were slapped with additional charges, totaling 150 counts, including attempted rape, sexual battery of a child under 13 and mingling harmful substances, according to The Advocate.
The husband, who was fired from his job at the Livingston Parish Sheriff’s Office, also faces an additional charge of sexually abusing animals, according to the Attorney General’s Office.
The pair were busted after authorities got a tip at the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children, police said in a statement.
The wife resigned from her teaching job at Westside Junior High School teacher the day she was arrested.
At the time of their arrest, the Livingston Parish Sheriff’s Office reacted the arrest of their own officer.
“It is a sad day for us, for all law enforcement officers, when you arrest one of your own,” the law enforcement agency said in a statement.
“We at the LPSO work hard everyday to retain the trust placed in us by our citizens.”
