NYC coronavirus cases jump to 5,151 — with 29 deaths

The city’s cases of COVID-19 jumped from 3,954 Thursday night to 5,151 Friday morning as Gov. Andrew Cuomo told New Yorkers to prepare for a statewide lockdown.

Fatalities also inched up overnight from 26 to 29.

The increase is largely due to more testing capacity, authorities said.

Brooklyn still has the highest number of coronavirus cases at 1,518, followed by 1,406 in Queens, 1,314 in Manhattan, 667 in the Bronx and 242 in Staten Island.

On Thursday, Borough Park’s Hatzola, an emergency service catering to the Jewish community, warned residents to stop gathering as the number of cases in Brooklyn’s Orthodox Jewish community soared past 400.
