Chiefs defensive back Tyrann Mathieu took to Twitter to call out those who doubted Patriots quarterback Mac Jones.
“Mac Jones wasn’t trendy enough for y’all at first huh now y’all love him…. Man, y’all funny!!! Day in and day out!!! Y’all should be on Comedy Central,” Mathieu tweeted on Tuesday.
He defended Jones after the first-year quarterback led the Patriots to a 45-7 blowout win against the Browns on Sunday.
“He don’t throw side arm or run fast so people knocked him….. dude can play QB! Period,” Mathieu wrote in a second tweet, which was a response to ESPN analyst and former NFL QB Dan Orlovsky.
Jones currently leads rookie quarterbacks in passing yards (2,333), and has 13 touchdowns in 10 games this season. He also leads his peers in passer rating (94.1).
The Alabama product had a breakout performance in Week 10. He threw three touchdown passes and completed 19 of 23 attempts for 198 yards in the team’s fourth straight win.

On Sunday, Jones recored a 142.1 passer rating — the highest by a rookie in Patriots history and the 8th-highest by any rookie in NFL history (min. 20 attempts), according to Stathead.
The Patriots (6-4) will visit the Falcons (4-5) in Atlanta on Thursday night.
