Tom Brady doesn’t hold back on painful Buccaneers opener vs. Cowboys: ‘Holy s–t’
Tom Brady’s post-game recovery feels a lot different at the age of 45.
During Monday’s installment of his SiriusXM podcast, “Let’s Go!” Brady said he walked away with cuts and bruises after taking hits in the Buccaneers’ 19-3 win over the Cowboys on Sunday, which made him question his commitment to playing a 23rd season in the league.
“There’s no margin for error when you’re 45,” the Buccaneers quarterback said. “You know, you take hits and you feel every hit. When you’re younger, your body’s a lot different.
“And when you’re 45, your body changes a lot. So what am I dealing with now? I woke up today going, ‘Holy s–t, there was a few hits.’”
Brady, who improved to 7-0 against the Cowboys, completed 18 of 27 attempts for 212 yards with one touchdown and one interception.
Although the seven-time Super Bowl champion walked away with a Week 1 win, it wasn’t without a few close encounters with the reigning Defensive Rookie of the Year, Cowboys linebacker Micah Parsons.
“And you look at your arm and you got bruises, you got cuts,” Brady said on his podcast. “And you go, ‘OK, how much longer do I want to make this commitment?’ And I obviously made the commitment for this year and everything’s going to be like always — continue to evaluate all these different aspects of playing.”
On Sunday, NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reported that the 2022 season is expected to be Brady’s final season. The news came after Page Six reported that the quarterback and his wife, supermodel Gisele Bündchen, are at odds over his decision to un-retire.
“I think for me, I’m just going to take it day by day and I will evaluate it as it comes,” Brady said on his podcast. “One of these days [the rumors] are going to be right… It’s really fun for me. I still enjoy [it]. I feel it out there, I feel the joy, I feel the happiness, I feel the camaraderie.”
Bündchen, who was not present at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas, for the Buccaneers season-opener, tweeted her support for Brady on Sunday.
“Let’s go @TomBrady ! Let’s go Bucs !” Bündchen tweeted.
Elsewhere on his podcast, Brady maintained that he was not filming “The Masked Singer” during his mysterious 11-day absence from Buccaneers training camp in August.
The Buccaneers visit their division rival Saints in Week 2. As of Tuesday, it’s unclear if Bündchen will be present at the game.
