A man was shoved onto the tracks at a Bronx subway station in an unprovoked attack on Saturday morning — the latest violent incident in the Big Apple’s underground, according to police.
The 26-year-old man was standing on the platform at the East 149th Street station waiting for a northbound 6 train around 11:50 a.m. when a stranger suddenly pushed him onto the tracks, cops said.
The man did not make any contact with the third rail and was helped back up to the platform by a good Samaritan before any trains arrived, police said.
The suspect, a man, fled in an unknown direction.
The victim was taken to Jacobi Hospital for evaluation.
Police said the investigation is ongoing. Security cameras are installed at the station.
The senseless shoving comes less than a day after a 15-year-old was fatally shot during a fight on a subway car in Queens.
Major crimes on the city’s subways have skyrocketed. In January, Mayor Eric Adams introduced his “subway safety plan” that saw over 1,000 extra cops per day deployed to the city’s subways.
After 10 months of the initiative, major crime on the subways is up 42% so far this year compared to the same time period in 2021, including eight murders, NYPD and MTA data shows.
