Purdue-NC State pick
A spot in the national championship game is on the line tonight in the desert when the No. 1 seed Purdue Boilermakers face the No. 11 seed NC State Wolfpack.
Purdue is a nine-point favorite on DraftKings Sportsbook, and while I expect the Boilermakers to win, that spread feels a bit too high. NC State has been playing so well in this tournament and I can’t see it losing by double digits to anyone other than UConn.
The Wolfpack are on an absolute heater and their wins in the Sweet 16 and Elite Eight have been their best victories yet. They controlled the game against Marquette then outscored Duke 55-37 in the second half to advance to the Final Four. Big man DJ Burns Jr. leads the way with two 20-point games this tournament, while guards DJ Horne (16.5 PPG in the tournament), Michael O’Connell, and Casey Morsell add more versatility to the offense.
Foul trouble is always an issue defending Zach Edey, but NC State also has additional big men to throw at him beyond Burns Jr. Look for Ben Middlebrooks and Mohamed Diarra to play a big role in defending Edey by taking on a lot of the fouls that he draws.
It’s also important to remember that this game is being played in an NFL stadium, which has unique sightlines that typically make it harder to shoot three-pointers, which is a big part of Purdue’s game.
