In their attempt to fortify their battered bullpen, the Yankees signed a familiar face to a minor league deal on Saturday: Chasen Shreve.
The 33-year-old lefty opted out of his minor league deal with the Rangers last month after appearing in 20 games with Triple-A Round Rock, where he had a WHIP of 0.761 over 22 ? innings.
He split last season between the Tigers and Reds, appearing in 50 games with a 1.343 WHIP.

Shreve previously pitched for the Yankees from 2015-18 before he was traded in ‘18 to the Cardinals- along with right-hander Giovanny Gallegos- in exchange for Luke Voit.
The Yankees have been desperate for bullpen help of late, making a flurry of roster moves in recent weeks due to injuries and added workload.
They also designated lefty Victor Gonzalez for assignment Friday, a day after bringing in left-handed sidearmer Tim Hill and designation another lefty,?Clayton Andrews, for assignment.
