Bill Burr slams Howie Mandel for ambush interview with Smashing Pumpkins’ Billy Corgan — his alleged half-brother
Bill Burr isn’t happy with Howie Mandel after the latter invited an unwanted guest onto their podcast episode.
The comedian, 56, unloaded on Mandel, 69, after Smashing Pumpkins singer, Billy Corgan, 57, showed up mid-interview on the Jan. 21 episode of “Howie Mandel Does Stuff.”
“You’re an a–hole,” Burr told Mandel.
Corgan was under the impression that Mandel informed Burr about his appearance, prompting the podcast host to say, “I thought it would be a good surprise.”
However, it was the opposite for Burr, who asked, “Can this be edited out?” before going with it.
“All right, f–k it, I’ll do it,” Burr said before asking the singer, “Did you ever think the fact that I never told that story … that maybe you shouldn’t?”
The stand-up comedian was referring to a previous podcast episode when Corgan claimed that his stepmom had told him: “Do you know who Bill Burr is? Bill Burr might be one of the children that your father sired in his days being a traveling musician.”
“You know how many emails and crap I got?” Burr said of the reveal.
Despite the tension, Burr told Corgan, “Listen, you’ve done well for yourself, I’m happy for you, but I just would prefer if you just kinda didn’t go around telling these f–king stories. Like, why did you feel the need to do that?”
The “1979” singer shared with Burr that Mandel convinced him to tell the story on his podcast after they randomly ran into each other.
“The first thing he said to me was, ‘Here comes Bill Burr.’ And I go, ‘Do you know that story somehow?’ And he said, ‘What story?’ And so I told him privately that story and he said, ‘Oh you’ve got to say this on the air,’ ” Corgan said of Mandel.
That didn’t surprise Burr, who then accused Mandel of bringing the singer on for “the f–king ratings.”
“He’s bringing you in here, not because he’s trying to heal the bulls–t that we went through growing up,” Burr said. “What was supposed to happen? Are we going to go play catch? We’re both in our 50s.”
The “Old Dads” actor also spoke about his father.
“He was a piece of s–t. He had two kids this close together, and he gave them the same f–king name? He thinks it’s different because he’s Billy and I’m Bill. That’s how he told the difference,” Burr said.
He also clarified his feelings on Corgan.
“It’s not that I don’t like him, it reminds me of all of that s–t,” he shared.
The Post reached out to Mandel for comment.
In November, Corgan spoke about his stepmom’s suspicions.
“I’ve never told it to anyone,” he told Mandel. “In fact, most of my friends don’t even know this story.”
“So, about 10 years ago, one of my brothers was having a birthday party and my stepmother was there who was obviously married to my father. And my stepmother said to me, ‘Do you know who Bill Burr is?’ Now at that point, I had never heard of Bill Burr, I didn’t know who he was. I didn’t know he was a comedian or anything. He could have been the guy down the street.”
Corgan recalled Burr’s striking resemblance to his father.
“And she said, ‘Well, he’s this comedian.’ And I think I even somehow called up a picture on the phone — and I kind of noticed right away, ‘Gee, he kind of looks like my father,’ ” he said. “Bill Burr looks more like my father than Bill Burr looks like me or I look like Bill Burr.”
The singer shared that his stepmom told him, “‘I think it might be one of your father’s illegitimate children. Bill Burr might be one of the children that your father sired in his days of being a traveling musician.’ “
Corgan doubled down on the tale.
“This is a true story. I’m not making this up, there is no joke in this. This is a true story. I’ve never told this anywhere, honestly,” he stated.
However, Corgan shared at the time that he didn’t believe they were related.
“It’s my belief at this point, because I’ve sat on the story for 10 years,” he said, “that I don’t think Bill Burr and I are related. I think it’s just one of those things. There are just people in the world that look alike.”
