Mayor Eric Adams’ former top aide Ingrid Lewis-Martin could face fresh charges in bribery case: prosecutors
Mayor Eric Adams’ indicted former top aide Ingrid Lewis-Martin could face fresh criminal charges as Manhattan prosecutors have opened a “new” grand jury probe in her corruption case, it was revealed in court Thursday.
“This case has been opened in a new grand jury,” Assistant District Attorney Ken Moore said during a virtual hearing for Lewis-Martin, who is accused of trading favors with two Big Apple hoteliers in exchange for more than $100,000 in bribes.
Moore cryptically raised the possibility of bringing “potentially other matters related to these defendants” when asked about “related cases” during the hour-long hearing, which Lewis-Martin did not attend.
“I don’t anticipate we’ll be finished with anything by May 23 as far as any related cases,” Moore said in response to a question from Manhattan Supreme Court Justice Daniel Conviser, who had floated that date for a future court appearance in the corruption case.
“And so to come back May 23, we may not have completed our presentation as to potentially other matters related to these defendants,” the prosecutor added.
The DA’s office did not provide any specifics about what the possible new charges could allege.
Lewis-Martin, her son Glenn Martin II, hotelier Mayank Dwivedi and real estate investor Raizada Vaid have all pleaded not guilty to what prosecutors allege was a years-long scheme in which the City Hall power broker tried to enrich herself and her son by trading favors for the developers.
Lewis-Martin’s defense attorney, Arthur Aidala, blasted the charges as “bogus,” and said his client was not concerned about any future probes.
“Ingrid Lewis-Martin has been in public service for many decades without a blemish on her record,” Aidala told The Post. “The pending charges against her are absolutely bogus and we will prevail. We do not fear any further investigation.”
Lewis-Martin resigned from her post as the mayor’s chief adviser days before being hit with the bombshell indictment.
Prosecutors previously hinted about an “ongoing” investigation in earlier court appearances.
