Lefty ex-WaPo journalist Taylor Lorenz has shocking response to post implying Biden died: ‘Got my hopes up’
Former Washington Post reporter Taylor Lorenz sparked backlash Monday after she admitted a social media post that implied former President Joe Biden was dead “got her hopes up.”.
The left-leaning firebrand has made her disdain for Biden clear, attacking his pro-Israel stance on the war in Gaza.
A social media user seemingly shared her view, posting a black-and-white photo of Biden over the weekend and writing: “RIP Joe Biden 1942-2025…You were always a racist f–king monster, and will not be missed.”
Lorenz shared the post on Sunday with a frowny face, adding: “This tweet got my hopes up.”
Some social media users blasted the post, calling it “disgusting.”
“Joe Biden is a war criminal who funded Israel’s genocide of the Palestinian people, completely dismantled public health protections during an ongoing pandemic, sacrificing millions of innocent people’s lives for the economy, among a slew of other atrocities,” Lorenz told The Post in a statement.
“My sympathies lie fully with those Joe Biden has harmed and killed,” she added.
Lorenz brushed off the criticism from others online.
“It’s so funny to see right wingers and reactionaries pearl clutching every time I say something about how much I hate Joe Biden,” she wrote in another post on Monday. “You guys don’t give a f–k about Joe Biden you hate that man too.”
Lorenz – who has also reported on technology for The New York Times, The Atlantic and The Daily Beast, and now runs her own news site – has landed in hot water in the past for her controversial posts.
In December, she defended the slew of shocking posts online celebrating the assassination of UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson, who was fatally shot in Midtown Manhattan outside the Hilton hotel.
“If you have watched a loved one die because an insurance conglomerate has denied their life saving treatment as a cost cutting measure, yes, it’s natural to wish that the people who run such conglomerates would suffer the same fate,” Lorenz wrote in an article for her newsletter, User Mag.
She doubled down a few days later, telling Piers Morgan that she felt “joy” over the killing.
Vox Media reportedly split with Lorenz, ending its deal to cross-promote her podcast and YouTube show, after the explosive comments, The Post previously reported. Semafor earlier reported the news.
Lorenz told The Post she is still under contract with Vox Media: Podcast Network, and has never worked for owner Vox Media. Her show has always been distributed on her own channels and feeds, Lorenz added.
