Jeff Bezos sells Seattle mansion amid move to Florida — for a record sum
Three, two, one — Jeff Bezos has officially lifted off from Seattle.
A sprawling waterfront estate owned by the Amazon and Blue Origin titan sold for $63 million last week, setting a new record for Washington State’s priciest residential transaction, according to Puget Sound Business Journal.
This deal eclipses the state’s prior record and underscores the enduring allure of ultra-luxury properties, even in a cooling high-end market. And it was all finalized in the days before Bezos’ Blue Origin took an all-women crew — including his fiancée Lauren Sanchez, pop star Katy Perry and longtime broadcast journalist Gayle King — on a brief space flight early Monday morning.
Nestled along Lake Washington’s shores, Bezos bought the 9,420-square-foot Hunts Point residence in 2019 for $37.5 million through an opaque trust, a common maneuver to shield buyer identities.?
In December 2023, Bezos announced his decision to leave the Emerald City for Florida to be closer to his parents.
“I’ve lived in Seattle longer than I’ve lived anywhere else and have so many amazing memories here, ” he wrote in an Instagram post. “As exciting as the move is, it’s an emotional decision for me. Seattle, you will always have a piece of my heart.”
Bezos has since purchased two adjacent Miami properties on Indian Creek Island for a combined $147 million. Last year he purchased a third property on the island, dubbed “Billionaire’s Island” for $90 million.
This is his first move to unload several properties in Seattle.
Bezos still maintains a 30,000-square-foot Tudor-style mansion known as the La Haye estate, which he acquired in 2010 for $45 million. In 1998, he purchased an adjacent property for $10 million.
The Post has reached out to Bezos’ reps for comment.
The Hunt’s Point property, previously owned by the late art collector Barney Ebsworth, features three bedrooms, four bathrooms, and lavish amenities like an elevator, a glass walkway linking to a two-story guesthouse and a rooftop terrace with a fireplace. There is also a secondary kitchen for catering.
This recent sale trumps last year’s top Washington transactions, including a $38.9 million Medina estate.?
Western Washington’s luxury market saw a dip in 2024, with just 14 homes fetching $10 million or more, down from 16 in 2023 and 19 in 2022.
Still, the region’s median home price on the Eastside held strong at $1.7 million as of March.
Bezos, whose fortune Forbes pegs at $198 billion, snapped up the Hunts Point home and other local properties following his 2019 divorce from MacKenzie Scott, with the other residences reportedly housing personal staff.
